Iceland gulls 25th


The regular Appleford bird still in the field. Viewed 12:00 to 12:30 mostly roosting but preening occasionally.

The Ardley Field Quarry bird still this morning too (per Mike Lewis, Banburybirds).

On Spit pit Appleford, 10:00 to 12:00, numbers of Large white headed gulls ranged from c.80 to c.320. The majority were Lesser black-backed and there was max 4 Great Black-backed and 12 Herring Gull (with one probable argentatus). Smaller gulls numbered 1 Common and c.45 Black headed.

- Appleford Gull Loafing Site With Iceland's Plus Interest?
For near 2 hours, Gulls in SW of field viewed from gateway. Distant and half of them out of sight amongst ground undulations. A few exceptionally dark L. B-backs, even when sunlit and temptingly like Baltic Gull (L. f. fuscus), but too far away to confirm...

- Great Views Around Appleford Pit Gulls
402 Canada Geese with 2 Greylags arriving together certainly made the gulls shift to the goose free side, but this chap and his large dog circling the lake in full view had not the slightest effect on anything ! So great views of Iceland flying around...

- Adult Med Gull In Farmoor Roost
No Twite; No GG Shrike but an Adult Med Gull in the roost instead, photographed here at ISO 3200 setting near dusk i.e. more noise than sharpness but interestingly arty nevertheless. Roost also had plenty of G B-backs, Lesser Black-backs - varied intermedius...

- South Stoke 1.00-1.30pm Tuesday 11th Jan
4 Red Kites but no sign of the White-fronts in field immediately north of village. Many 100's of Lesser Blackbacks, Common and Black-headed Gulls loafing together amongst the pig pens to the SSE of the village. No Herring, Yellow-legged or Caspian...
